QUOTES ACROSS TABLES

Under the purview of collaborations called, 'Another Look At' between one artist and two proprietors/employees who operate in the Kala Ghoda area, I had the pleasure of working with Malini Akerkar (Indigo) and Mr.Pervez Patel (Way-Side-Inn) on the proffered subject (2 chairs and a table).

Instead of re-designing the existing chairs and tables at Way-Side-Inn, our given site/location for this project, we decided to welcome suggestions from its users and the usual passers by on the street that would range a cross section of people.

We saw this as an interactive conversation about ideas of design and comfort that can initiate across tables and extend beyond physical conceptions of seating

We invited the viewers' participation by contributing a line or sentence each on their idea of comfort. These could either be inscribed on the candles being handed out or scribbled on a piece of paper. . (Image I001)

We held every contribution valuable in putting together an expansive wishing-candle that we saw as amassing the faith of a cross-section of people. The individual fragments were finally converged and fused together as the mammoth candle was made to burn down at the end of the exhibition. The act closely resembled the ritual of offering or sacrifice seen as a necessary agent in wish fulfillment. . (Image I002)
