Artist Statement for 'Echoes From the Cloud-Bell', a work done for the exhibition, 'Through the Eyes of an Akanksha Child ', 2001.

The artworks at the show were auctioned by Christies at Indigo. Exhibition at the Coomaraswamy Hall, Mumbai.

'Echoes from the Cloud-Bell' was a work made with the participation of over 15 children. Each child was invited to draw/paint his or her wish on paper shaped like a water droplet. (image I001)

My contribution here was that of a catalyst or an artistic assistant, in collaboration with whom the little creators could build up a single picture with all their voices whispering from within.

I chose the metaphor of the cloud from the numerous folktales that speak of the cloud as a carrier of wishes.

Also for me, it was special that each child would provide a wish/image that could enrich this cloud of dreams. Clouds are never static: they change shape, move freely as also open up generously and shower rain to end a painful summer, much like the children themselves.
